Top selling games: PS3 Edition

The PS3 is in its twilight years, and so many great titles have launched on the platform, so we thought it’s time to look back and reminisce.

With Sony having a fantastic first party line up in the last-gen, combined with their ability to re-release some of their greatest PlayStation 2 titles in HD Collection format, they have sold over 595 million games. Then add in Sony’s PlayStation Portable which has sold over 330 million titles, and we get close to 1 billion games sold.

The highest selling PlayStation titles are a tally of not only some of the greatest gaming experiences ever, but a testament to what lays in store for PlayStation fans moving into the next generation.

First Party Titles

First party titles are games released by Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios. These developers make games just for the PlayStation family and frequently create gaming experiences with rich stories and unparalleled gameplay sequences. I will never forget the PS3’s first party line up, just looking at the top sellers brings back so many gaming memories.

God of War III – 10.3 Million
Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception – 3.8 million
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves – 3.8 million
The Last of Us – 3.4 million
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune – 2.6 Million
inFAMOUS – 2.72 millions
inFAMOUS 2 – 1.64 million

Exclusives

These are games that were not first party titles but were exclusive to the PS3. Here we can see that during the PS3’s life-cycle it had the full support of third party developers, with great titles like the return of Snake in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The PS3 single-handedly gave birth to the Souls Franchise with the success of Demon’s Souls.

The PS3 had over 200 third party exclusive titles that never released on other platforms.

These are titles that released for other platforms. The sales stats below are for the PS3 alone.

As you can see the Grand Theft Auto series has found a home in the PS3 family and will continue to sell copies till the end of time. With eight Call of Duty games released on the PS3 in its lifetime, the Call of Duty franchise has definitely been a top seller.
