PS3 goes 3D today

10 June 2010

So last night PSN users would have noticed that their service was down. The PlayStation Store in particular was completely inaccessible, and now e know why.

Everyone is ranting and raving about 3D, and whether you’re a fan or not, it is here to stay. A firmware update released  recently unlocked the stereoscopic 3D potential of the PS3, although the lack of 3D content, and widespread availability of 3D compatible HD TVs made it still inaccessible.

That all changes today, sort of. Sony just launched their 3D Bravia HD TV range, and other manufacturers have also begun rolling these units out en masse.

To celebrate Sony’s entry to the world of 3D, a number of PSN games have been upgraded to full 3D. These include WipEout HD, PAIN SuperStardust HD and the Motorstorm 3D Pacific Rift demo. If you already have any of these installed, then you can simply patch them to become 3D compatible.

You will however still need a shiny new uber-pricey –yet totally awesome – 3D HD TV to get in on any of this action.
