Darksiders 2 confirmed at E3, nobody especially surprised

17 June 2010

Over at THQ’s E3 analyst meeting sometime on Tuesday, core games vice president Danny Bilsen dropped confirmation that Darksiders is getting a sequel. I mean, not that it wasn’t totally obvious and everything because of the way the first game ended and everything (spoiler: War still has stuff to do), but official confirmation is nice.

“Darksiders 2 is coming,” said Bilsen, making my dreams come true. “We’ve green lit that. It’s well into production now, it’s two years out from now.” So that’s Darksiders 2 in 2012, which – conveniently enough – should coincide with the end of the world. Maybe. Probably not. But that would be sort of appropriate or something, wouldn’t it?

Speaking to CVG earlier this year, Bilsen suggested that a (then unconfirmed, mind you, but not less inevitable) Darksiders sequel would likely be bigger (better, more badass, etc.) thatn its predecessor.

“[Darksiders] did about twice as much as Red Faction,” he said. “It’s done pretty well. I believe that franchise building isn’t about a zillion units out of the gate, it’s about building a fan base, building a community of people that dig it, listening to them, doing what you think is good. The second one will be twice as big as the first one and the third one you get to big numbers. That’s my strategy.”
