Unconfirmed reports suggest that Microsoft is planning to sell a model of the new Xbox 360 for $199. According to Kotaku a Microsoft marketing Q&A document simply stated:
Q: Will you sell a $199 version of the new Xbox 360?
A: We will offer a $199 Xbox 360 this fall.
The Q&A document that somehow found its way to Kotaku answers the question, but not in the detail we may have wanted.
No information is available on which of the features from the new “Stealthbox” will be included in the cheaper version. Kotaku speculates that a $199 model would lack both the 250GB hard drive and internal 802.11n Wi-Fi that the new Xbox 360 has.
The document also confirmed that the Kinect would be sold separately as well as part of a bundle with the new Xbox 360 console. Regarding further details on these bundles all the document had to say was “we have no additional details about pricing or retail strategy to share at this time.”
There has still been no word about the local release date of the Stealthbox, so it’s difficult to speculate about when we’ll see the cheaper model in South Africa.
