New Call of Duty FPS hinted

22 June 2010

In the wake of the ‘Call-of-Duty-gate’ saga, numerous announcements pertaining to the future of the franchise name were made. At one point soon after the initial blowout between Infinity Ward employees and publisher Activision, there were no less than three new CoD games rumoured to be on the cards.

It was of little surprise when it emerged that CoD development second fiddle Treyarch would be producing the next FPS instalment in the series, Call of Duty: Black Ops.

One of the more interesting rumours that emerged was that a newly formed company named Sledgehammer Games would be developing some sort of third-person action game based on the CoD franchise. Credibility was perhaps lent to the rumour due to the fact that the Sledgehammer leads were none other than Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey, who were previously with Visceral games, a studio responsible for the third-person action game hit, Dead Space.

Well, it seems that the third-person CoD rumours can now be laid to rest, as Sledgehammer Games has quietly updated its site with the following tidbit of information: “We are currently in production on a Call of Duty FPS game.”

That’s about the only info available at the moment, unless you are interested in working for Sledgehammer, in which case, check out their site for available jobs.
