Counter-Strike: Source major update; Mac OS launch

24 June 2010

Valve has launched the newly updated Counter-Strike: Source for the Mac OS for a low price of US$6.80 (±R50). Of course, the game is also available on PC at the same discounted price. The special will run until Friday, so there is no better time to pick up this classic multiplayer shooter, especially considering all the nifty updates Valve has implemented.

Previously the changes were only implemented in a limited public beta testing phase, but it would appear that Valve is ready to roll out the mass update. The game has been spruced up with the Orange Box version of the source engine, better HDR support, a touched-up flashlight effect, and multicore rendering capability.

Many features that will be familiar to Team Fortress 2 players have appeared, such as lifetime player statistics, a kill-cam, avatar icons, a domination and revenge system, a detailed scoreboard, and many more. There are also 144 achievements to strive for, such as the ‘Clusterstruck’ achievement, gained by killing five enemies with C4.

Finally, Mac OS gamers will be able to participate in a game they have missed since
