BIG SURPRISE: Kinect preorders are “very low”

30 June 2010

Microsoft’s prepping their controller-free controller for an October release, but apparently nobody much cares. Take that, Cirque du Soleil’s infallible elephant puppet.

According to UK retailer, ShopTo, preorders for the Kinect add-on are “very low”, possibly (probably) because of its 129.99 GBP price tag. Talking to Eurogamer, ShopTo guy Igor Cipolletta points out the flaming obvious, saying, “It’s too high. We believe that with this current economy it should be around 70 GBP. For 140 GBP you can buy a Wii.” And at least the Wii has Dead Space: Extraction.

Of course, that 129.99 GBP price is still technically a placeholder until Microsoft stops prevaricating and admits that’s the actual price, but until there’s a catalogue of proper games to go with it, who really wants one anyway? I mean, Kinectimals looks sort of fun, but there’s really only so many minutes I can ignore a crying tiger before it gets boring.
