Killzone 3 won’t have any loading screens

19 July 2010

Guerilla Games has confidently declared that Killzone 3 will not feature any loading screens.

“We’re excited what the PS3 can do for us and what we can do for it… (speaking of loading screens), literally everything is streamed now”.

We have seen games attempt to bypass loading screens, or at least hide them, before. Mass Effect’s famous elevators spring to mind, and Uncharted 2 more elegantly hid them behind cut scenes.

Killzone 2’s loading screens were noticeably long, sometimes taking up to 30 seconds. While 30 seconds is pretty short, it can feel like an eternity when it is the difference between being fully immersed in a virtual world, and staring at a static screen.

The developer has obviously noted this, and we can only welcome the ambitious goal.
