Gamescom 2014 – EA conference highlights

Shadow Realms

Shadow Realms was shown off for the first time, with the tag line: “Everything dies, let’s begin with you”.

The game is an online action-RPG which will see you team up with other players, and your party will take on the Shadowlord – “the insidious one” – who will be player-controlled. Think of it as 4-vs-1 action! Nice.

At the moment, it looks like a PC exclusive, and interested gamers can apply to be a part of the closed alpha on the game’s website. Shadow Realms is due to be released late in 2015 and will feature episodic updates.

Battlefield Hardline

Following all the frenetic multiplayer action we saw at E3, EA chose to focus on Hardline’s single-player campaign at Gamescom.

12-minutes of the single-player campaign, shown of in the video, below, was detailed. But don’t worry, there’s a lot of multiplayer action on show as well.

Can cops and robbers make it big in Hardline – you be the judge.

Dragon Age Inquisition

EA and Bioware showed off an extended gameplay demo for upcoming RPG title Dragon Age: Inquisition. Bigger landscapes, bigger parties, and a more gripping story is promised for all Dragon Age fans.

Fifa 15

It’s all about authenticity in Fifa 15 according to EA, with the latest version of the football game promising “next-gen goalkeepers” will look, think, and behave like their real-world counterparts.

The Sims 4

Want to make a Sim of German leader Angela Merkel? The Sims 4 lets you do that. EA also showed off the new “drag and drop” functionality in build mode, allowing you to make your dream home in a jiffy.

The Sims 4 create-a-Sim demo is now available as The Sims 4 website for all to try, the publisher announced at the end of the demo.

NHL 15

NHL 15 received a new gameplay trailer at Gamescom, and, even though ice hockey is not the most popular sport in SA, this good-looking game will have a few gamers interested.

NHL 15 is due to be released for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 on 9 September 2014.
