For all the new Guardians out there who have embarked on their epic journeys to become legends, we know things might seem intimidating right now, but do not fear, for we have put together a tips and tricks list through extensive research to make things a bit easier for all you aspiring warriors.
Instead of giving you walkthroughs and tons of spoilers, though, the following will merely serve as a guide to staying safe and prospering during your adventures.
Ready? Let’s begin.
Don’t forget about those gold chests
Each planet in Destiny has 5 gold chests. These chests do not level up with your character, so you want to find them as soon as possible. The golden chests contain items such as guns, armour, and player emblems.
You will also find Glimmer – the currency of Destiny. For those of you who played the Destiny Beta, I will let you in on a secret: the chests in Old Russia are in the same places as before.
Engram-it
When you receive an Engram you will need to decode it at the Tower. Keep in mind that the results of the Engram change depending on your level, so if you are about to level up wait until you have ranked up before decoding it.
Make sure you can play forever
There is no pausing in Destiny, and there are no plans to add this feature down the line. As it is an online game, this can be expected, so do not play if you have friends or family over, if dinner is in the oven, or you need to work from home.
Basically, turn of your phone and lock your door and get stuck in.
Dismantle, Dismantle, Dismantle
If your inventory gets cluttered with boring and useless guns and armour, dismantle them. Glimmer is rare, and to make sure you always have a decent supply, you can dismantle most items in your inventory in exchange for the currency.
If you ain’t using it, chop it up.
Store it
At the Tower, there are large computer towers to the right of where you land – these act as a stash point.
If you need or want to store anything, like your spare Ghost skin, then this is the place. Your vault is also shared amongst all your characters.
Get those Bounties
The best way to level up is by taking on bounties.
The bounties in Destiny require you to complete certain tasks, which you then redeem for XP and other goodies. The nice thing about the bounties, is that you can complete a lot of them during regular play.
Bring on the XP and levelling up.
Go to the Crucible, you won’t regret it
Even if PvP titles are not your thing, the Crucible will have you addicted in no time.
Here you can play various multiplayer matches and level up while doing it. The fact that your main character goes into the Crucible with all his or her armour, weapons, and abilities makes it even more fun to pwn noobs.
There are even bounties in the Crucible, which means lots of XP.
Play with other Guardians on the same level
If you are going to play Destiny with friends, try to play with those who are on a similar level to you. You don’t want to be that guy at the back battling to make a kill while everyone else destroys Fallen soldiers with a single shot of their hand cannon.
Use your surroundings
Things can get quite heated when gun fights between Guardians and Earth’s enemies erupt.
To survive, you must learn to use your surroundings to your advantage. If you are low and need to escape, use boost jump to get out of there. Your time in the air makes you harder to hit and allows for your health to regenerate.
If you are near death’s door, hug a wall and stay hidden – enemies will take a while before deciding to venture after you. This gives you a chance to recover.
Fly Sparrow, fly
The environments in Destiny are large and beautiful, but you may become bored of the landscape after a while. The solution, jump on your Sparrow and fly at top speed to your destination.
Don’t forget about the Sparrow, which can happen if you are exploring all the nooks of the various planets.
Use your Super Power
If you see that your super power is full and there is a group of enemies nearby, it is time to release the beast. This is really handy when you are getting overrun by the hordes.
When you use your power, keep a look out for the orbs of light that are generated. Pick these up to recharge your power levels and, once again, release the aforementioned beast.
Pay attention to weapon attributes
In Destiny you will get many items and weapons – sometimes these will complement each other.
For example: if you love shotguns, you should get a pair of gloves that improve shotgun stability, accuracy, or even magazine size.
You will also find equipment that improves your discipline, strength, and intellect. Each of these affect your Guardian in the following way:
- Discipline: Cool down of your grenade;
- Strength: Cool down of your melee attack;
- Intellect: Rate at which your super move charges.
Weapons have levels
The green and upwards weapon classes level up, just like your character. As you progress through the game, your weapon will, too.
This lets you unlock new sights, accuracy bonuses, and bigger magazines.
The levelling up also improves your melee recharge and grenade damage. Another tip: equip new weapons before you turn in your bounties, so the XP bonus can stack on your gun, too.
Level up your shops
The more you purchase at the various shops, the more bounties you collect, and the more Cryptograms you decrypt, the faster the vendor you interact with levels up.
This, in turn, unlocks better weapons, and you get better items from your decryptions. Most elements in the game have level systems, so keep a look out for opportunities to rank up.
Everything can be changed
Once you level up in the game you will unlock various skills. These can be changed at any time, so if you are not happy with your cluster grenade you can change it to a pulse grande – no problem.
The same goes for weapons, once they have been leveled up you can switch between the complementary items that are unlocked for them.
