In addition many want to promote a certain social agenda for either ideological reasons or because of the sort of modern progressive image they wish to project. Now nothing is stopping women from creating games. And nothing stops people writing games for women. There in fact exist games written specifically for women – these can be dating sims where a girl gets to pick the right guy from a harem of males. But to say that games should have more women heroes and women per se, and these women should not ever be damsels in distress is pretty retarded. Games are for the most part escapist activities. They are mostly played by males, and these males enjoy the challenge these games pose. They enjoy beat them ups, first person shooters, empire building games, RPGs, war games, technical flight sims, strategy games, and so on. As in real life, we find that most people in such games are men. Most soldiers are men. Most bad guys are men. Most Nazis are men. Most aliens look male. Most Roman soldiers are male. Most orcs look male. Most wrestlers and ninjas as well as samurai are male.
As for the corruption in the gaming media, I’m sure it’s there. The problem is that this gaming media does influence what sort of games are made or promoted. This means that games which are not popular can be produced instead of ones which people may actually enjoy playing.
