StarCraft II most pirated game of 2010 so far – shocker

10 August 2010

According to Torrentfreak Blizzard’s  recently released RTS is the most pirated game of the year so far, with a total of around 260,000 copies downloaded illegally.

100,000 copies were downloaded via BitTorrent on day one, and there are an estimated 50,000 people currently sharing the game online. Activision Blizzard is no stranger to piracy, and last year their hit FPS Modern Warfare 2 was the most pirated game, with around 4.1 million downloads.

There are also legitimate torrents of StarCraft II doing the rounds, and Blizzard has openly used the platform to distribute the game. Using a legitimately purchased serial number, with the official StarCraft II torrent files, users can download and install the game legally. This has allowed Blizzard to take advantage of the massive file sharing network without having to bear the costs of hosting fees.
