Afrihost CEO Gian Visser has told subscribers that the Internet service provider (ISP) would be extending its double data promotion until the end of June 2015.
However, the extension only applies to its ADSL packages, and not its Mobile Data.
“Although we had extended this promotion quite a few times over the past year, this December was going to be the end,” said Visser.
Afrihost decided to extend the ADSL promotion to reward subscribers for their loyalty, Visser said.
“Thank you for trusting us with your ADSL and for sticking with us through the good times and the bad,” he added.
Subscribers don’t need to do anything to qualify for the promotion.
“Your double data will continue to automatically be added to your account each month,” Visser said.
Mobile Double Data ending
On the mobile side, though, the double data promotion will end on 31 December.
Visser said Afrihost was hoping that as the overall volume of GBs used grew, the cost per GB would come down enough so the operator would be able to keep offering double data.
“Our wholesale cost has unfortunately not come down to a point where we can come close to break even – our cost per GB is still well above the effective rate you pay us,” Visser said.
“This means we have no choice but to end the Double Mobile Data on the 31st of December as communicated over the course of the last year.”
Afrihost Mobile data users can still get double data through the R99 per month Afrihost Plus+ service, Visser noted.
Afrihost Plus+ offers other mobile data perks including an extra 500MB of Mobile Data and 2-for-1 Mobile Data top-ups anytime of the month.
