Buy new games with Bitcoin

11 December 2014

Microsoft now accepts Bitcoin for its Xbox digital games and the company’s apps. Well, in a manner of speaking.

According to a report by CoinDesk, the digital currency can be used to add funds to your Microsoft Account, but can’t, at this stage, be used to purchase games and services directly.

So you can use Bitcoin to add money to your Microsoft Account to get content like Xbox games, music, and videos – but you can’t get direct services like Office 365.

There was no big announcement about the move from Microsoft, according to reports – the digital currency has simply shown up as a payment option for funding your Microsoft Account.

Oh, and this is only available in the USA for now. Naturally.

Microsoft’s acceptance of Bitcoin puts it ahead of companies like Apple and Google. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Bitcoin, here’s a brief explanation.
