You can change your StarCraft II name once for free, after that it'll cost you

17 August 2010

Blizzard has announced that all StarCraft II players will get a chance to change their in-game name once. After that, you will have to pay for the privilege, WoW style.

“In some cases, people chose character names that don’t represent their usual multiplayer nicknames, as they were unaware of how the character names were being used,” explains Blizzard. “It’s important to us that everyone is represented by a name of their choosing in their multiplayer games, ladders, and on the forums and community site.”

Players are bound to be upset by the name-change fee, however, considering the nature of the competative StarCraft II arena, it is probably better if players are locked into a single name for their SCII career, and one could even make the argument for no name changes at all.
