Web Africa has launched its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) products which will use Telkom’s infrastructure, offering speeds of between 20Mbps and 100Mbps.
Web Africa’s Greg Wright explained that unlike Telkom’s bundled fibre products, they offer unbundled products to provide consumers with more flexibility.
“Customers can upgrade and downgrade their fibre line speeds at any time for a fee of R199,” said Wright.
Web Africa’s fibre line rental prices are as follows:
- 20Mbps – R639
- 40Mbps – R739
- 100Mbps – R849
Users have a variety of data package choices, ranging from 40GB (+80GB after hours) to 400GB (+800GB after hours).
A setup fee of R1,749 applies to all new installations, and this fee includes a Huawei fibre router.

This seems pretty expensive. For the 20 and 40Mbps options it is much cheaper to just go the VDSL route, assume uploads will be a bit slower than on fibre but dl’s should be the same between fibre and VDSL?
