Microsoft working on game for PC enthusiasts

30 August 2010

According to VG247, Microsoft Game Studios’ general manager Dave Luehmann has announced that they are busy working on a game that will cater to PC hardware enthusiasts. Does this mean we should be on the lookout for a cutting-edge, high-end PC exclusive title in the near future?

The statement came out when Luehmann was asked whether Microsoft is interested in catering for the core-gamer market, or if they will solely focus on the quickly growing casual market. PC hardware enthusiasts were mentioned, and Luehmann stated that “there are other products, and I can think of one in particular, that will really encourage that type of behaviour.”

The fact that most games are made with multiple platforms in mind these days means that they have to run smoothly on consoles, and therefore, developers typically can’t push the envelope too far regarding system requirements.

Gone are the days where PC gaming was at the forefront driving the industry and we were all clamouring to keep our gaming machines up to date. This has been great for many gamers who do not like having to upgrade their hardware, but there is also an audience which enjoys high-end, constantly improving graphics, and upgrading their PCs to handle the latest technology.

Microsoft has displayed a renewed interest in PC gaming, with the announcements that Fable III will be released for PC, and Age of Empires Online is coming soon. Are they planning the next Crysis? Time will tell.
