Super Meat Boy is a platform game which will soon be appearing on Xbox Live Arcade, WiiWare, Windows and Mac platforms. The XBLA release has been dated – 20 October 2010.
The game started out as Meat Boy, a Flash title on Newgrounds. Nintendo, impressed with the game, expressed interest in having it ported to WiiWare. The game development has since expanded to multiple platforms – Xbox Live Arcade, WiiWare, Windows and Mac.
In an interview with The Escapist Meat Boy designer Edmund McMillen described some elements of the game:
“The basis of Meat Boy’s story is set around nostalgic videogame clichés. The story is basically a mash-up of every videogame story from the early 90s, except you’re a little boy made of meat who’s saving a girl made of Band-Aids from a fetus in a jar with a PhD. The goal with Super Meat Boy is to take this design and push it as far as it will go. SMB will be extremely over-the-top in every way.”
There is no official release date for the Wii, Windows and Mac version, but back in February 2010, Team Meat hinted that they would be releasing Super Meat Boy for all platforms in the same month, but the Xbox version had to be released first due to contractual obligations.
Pricing information will be coming soon according to the Team Meat blog, and they also have a secret announcement up their meat sleeves. “The real big unveil will be a feature we have been keeping very tight lipped about that is sure to win over even the most jaded internet trolls (*hint hint*),” read the post.
