Activision plans to trump Modern Warfare 2 sales

2 September 2010

Activision is pretty sure of itself, as they plan to usurp Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as the FPS sales king. Black Ops is set for a November release so that Activision coin purses can jingle all the way to the bank.

“We’ve a fantastic game and a fantastic marketing campaign so our ambition is to set another record like we did with Modern Warfare 2,” said Call of Duty general manager for Europe, Michaël Sportouch, in an interview with MCV UK.

In order to achieve this lofty goal, not a penny (over budget) has been spared for the Call of Duty: Black Ops marketing campaign, which is about to launch into overdrive around the world.

“The resources invested behind Black Ops in terms of development of the game and the marketing are the highest ever for Activision. Our ambition is not only to be the biggest game but also the biggest entertainment launch of the year,” said Sportouch.

Black Ops has been generating a great deal of hype already, with new game modes just revealed, and the disappointing news about South African dedicated servers the latest in a string of news stories.
