The Witcher 3’s Expansion Pass will cost around R300

When The Witcher 3’s expansion pass was announced, CD Projekt RED, understandably, received a mixed reception. After all, they had promised that any content released subsequent to The Witcher 3 would be free, and now they’re charging for post-release content. What we think CD Projekt RED meant at the time was neat, relatively small additions to the game, not substantial new stories like that of Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.

You might argue that irrespective of the scale or magnitude of the expansions, failing to purchase them will mean missing out on a significant portion of The Witcher 3 experience. It may even feel like you have no choice but to make the purchase. After all, they were described as add-on discs that significantly expand upon the game.

We remember the time when add-on disks truly expanded games by delivering meaningful content. As gamers, we’d like to bring that back. We’ve said in the past that if we ever decide to release paid content, it will be vast in size and represent real value for money.”

And yet, even in spite of 30 hours of glorious monster slaying, the expansion pass still costs less than most season passes, and seasons passes usually offer a lot less. It’s a reasonable $24.99 (around R300).

Whether you agree or disagree, we really aren’t all that upset. In fact, we’re rather excited to get our grubby, Witcher-loving paws all over those expansions. Keep in mind that having all of this additional content release as part of the game would mean more delays, less time to polish what is already there and a lesser experience. What’s being offered is worth the price. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. And you can always wait for reviews of the expansions before purchasing them. We’d recommend that you do. That way, you can be sure.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt releases for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on May 19th.

I was just about to go off my rocket. Delay that launch.
