Blizzard plans to crack down on StarCraft II hackers in "near future"

15 September 2010

Blizzard has announced that it is planning to start banning and suspending Battle.net accounts in instances where players have been using cheats and hacks.

“Blizzard Entertainment has always taken cheating in any form in Blizzard games very seriously, and that’s no different for StarCraft II. If a StarCraft II player is found to be cheating or using hacks or modifications in any form, then as outlined in our end user license agreement, that player can be permanently banned from the game. This means that the player will be permanently unable to log in to Battle.net to play StarCraft II with his or her account.”

StarCraft II is an intensely competitive game, and murmurs of players map and drop hacking have become common. It is thought that Blizzard has not banned any players yet as allowing hackers to reach critical mass before taking action is thought to ultimately route out more of them.

Once a Battle.net account has been banned, hackers will have to purchase a new copy of the game and open a new Battle.net account if they want to continue playing.
