SAIX and IS HoN servers shutdown

15 September 2010

Developer S2 Games has shut down locally hosted Heroes of Newerth servers being run by SAIX and IS. This leaves iBurst gaming subsidiary iGame as the sole local server hosts for HoN in South Africa.

S2 Games has been very involved in the rollout and maintenance of HoN servers in SA since the game was being beta tested in 2009. It is impossible to host a server without the involvement of the developer, and S2 retains the rights at any time to terminate a particular server.

According to Telkom DoGaming, the decision by S2 to close down SAIX and IS servers was made “to minimise the need for S2 Games to be directly involved in the boxes in South Africa, and to keep things simple on their end.”

SAIX servers in particular had reportedly been experiencing issues with lag, as had iGame and IS’s servers.

When asked about lag on their HoN servers, an iGame representative explained that they are conducting various tests with different ISP’s. MWEB Uncapped and IS users have been particularly badly effected by lag, due to the way those ISP’s route their traffic. iGame hopes to resolve the lag experienced with certain ISP’s.

Unfortunately, the only current solution is for iGame technicians to handle individual cases as they occur, which is frustratingly often.

To handle the anticipated extra server load from the closing of SAIX and IS servers, iGame is currently working on getting two additional servers up and running.  They are aiming to have a total of three HON servers in operation by this weekend.
