Xbox One backwards compatibility improves game performance

With Microsoft’s E3 announcement that the Xbox One will have backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 games, we now have actual video proof of the performance benefits of the Xbox One.

In the video below, you can see the original Xbox 360 version of Mass Effect running on both the original console and the Xbox One.

The increased performance from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One is quite noticeable.

The 360 version of Mass Effect had frequent stuttering, but as you can see in the above comparison, now runs smoothly on the Xbox One.

On top of this, texture pop-in has been vastly improved and while there are some minor issues, the improvements are easy to see.

Character lighting appears much darker than before and the clunky controls are apparently going to be less of an issue with the Xbox One controller.

Load times are also much shorter than on the Xbox 360, even with a hard drive. That makes sense since, from what we understand, games are directly installed to the Xbox One’s hard drive.

As an added bonus, cut scenes seem to end slightly quicker, with no slowdowns when camera angles and animations change.

The performance boosts for Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One appear to be the real deal. This is especially great news for Xbox One owners with a huge library of Xbox 360 games.

This is very impressive! Not only did MS manage to emulate, they improved on the original? Console wars aside, this must have been a bitch of a job to pull off! Well done MS!
