Fallout: New Vegas goes gold

4 October 2010

Bethesda Softworks has announced that Fallout: New Vegas is ready to ship. The master disk has been sent to the factory for pressing, and the game is well on track for its October 22 launch.

New Vegas has been developed by Obsidian Entertainment; a developer formed from the ashes of the original Fallout creator Black Isles Studios. Many old school Fallout fans were unhappy when Bethesda bought the rights to the iconic franchise, and picked up development on Fallout 3 using its own in house studio. Fallout 3 turned out to be a great game, winning various ‘Game of the Year’ accolades, but the news that the original series’ creators were getting their hands on the IP for New Vegas was music to the ears of many fans of the original games.

Bethesda has clearly stated that New Vegas is not an official sequel to Fallout 3, but should be viewed more as a spin-off.

At any rate, we can expect hours of wasteland wandering, loot collecting, and trademark mannequin-stiff Gamebryo engine animation!
