Which neighbourhoods have the highest average download speed

Ookla’s Net Index website shows that Sandton, Bryanston, and Midrand are the South African suburbs with the highest average broadband speeds.

The Net Index website uses data from millions of recent test results from Speedtest.net to calculate the average broadband speeds around the world.

The website shows that the average download speed in South Africa is 7.9Mbps, while the average upload speed is 4Mbps.

Despite an increase in the average broadband speed in recent years, South Africa still lags behind global standards.

The average global download speed is 24.3Mbps, while the average upload speed is 11.2Mbps. This is much higher than local speeds, as shown in the table below.

Ookla’s Net Index website shows that Sandton had the highest average download speed at 16.1Mbps, followed by Bryanston on 12.64Mbps, and Midrand on 12.26Mbps.
