Dying Light: The Following, the game it always should have been

Ever since Techland’s initial teaser of Dying Light’s upcoming expansion, The Following, we’ve been oddly attracted to the prospect of its massive new world, newly introduced vehicles and all that it entails.

And The Following’s latest reveal trailer show’s exactly why we can’t wait to play the missing chapter of Dying Light’s protagonist, Kyle Crane’s, story.

Dying Light: The Following takes players outside the walls of the quarantined Harran, into the hazardous, open outback – it’s a ravaged countryside to be sure.

But perhaps most appealing to us, more than the introduction of the vehicles, is the idea of having to navigate open fields, moonlit but otherwise almost pitch black, biters and volatiles all around.

Suddenly, your car roars to life and you’re tasked with outrunning the volatiles as they intercept your car from all angles.

Throw in the huge number of new places to parkour around and the promise of new mechanics and tactics not previously possible in Dying Light, and you can see the appeal.

As far as The Following’s story is concerned:

The survivors of Harran are reeling from the events that took place in Dying Light. With the city still under quarantine, there is little hope left and tension is running high. Players will again take the role of Kyle Crane, and will be thrown into Harran’s outback region, rife with the infected, where they’ll encounter a mysterious, and seemingly all-powerful cult, capable of changing the face of Dying Light’s world. To infiltrate and unravel dark secrets of The Following, Kyle Crane will need to face all-new challenges and use his abilities to the limit.”

It sounds promising. We just hope that there are new weapons to craft, gadgets to use and a few more surprises to boot.
