Final Fantasy XIV free trial period extended

18 October 2010

Final Fantasy XIV on PC has had a troubled time since it was launched at the end of September 2010. User review scores started to pour in, and they weren’t particularly flattering.

The game doesn’t do itself any favours either, requiring a behemoth of a PC to run in all its glory. The game is also heavily focussed on creating a ‘hardcore’ role-playing experience, and as such, might not appeal to the kind of gamer looking for an ‘easy-access’ style of MMO. Anyone looking to purchase the game should consider these 8 things to be aware of before buying Final Fantasy XIV.

On top of that, in South Africa there appears to be a hidden quest of epic proportions that must be completed just to get the game running.

To their credit, Square Enix has heard the complaints of users and is working to fix things. “Considering the nature of much of the feedback we received, however, and the current state of the game, we have decided to extend the free trial period for all users,” said Square Enix in a statement.

“We would like to assure players that the world of Final Fantasy XIV is constantly growing and evolving, and the voices of the community are essential to that process. The development and management teams are carefully considering all player feedback, and working diligently to implement whatever changes and additions will serve to make Eorzea a better home for adventurers. We humbly ask for your continued support to this end.”

They have extended the free trial period for any player who purchases a character before 25 October 2010. This means that these players will get 60 days free altogether.

All the nitty gritty of this process will be handled automatically, and users need simply sit back and wait for a confirmation e-mail. Further details can be found on the Final Fantasy XIV website.
