The Witcher 2 PC on track for March – console version uncertain

22 October 2010

In an unusual turn, it seems as though PC gamers are being put first by a developer. CD Projekt’s Tomasz Gop has told Eurogamer that while the PC version of the Witcher 2 is on track for its March 2011 release, the “potential” console version will not be released at the same time. The fact that Gop referred to it as the “potential” console version, plus the fact that only the PC version has been shown off so far, has lead many to speculate as to whether the console version even exists yet.

“All I can say for now is that it’s not likely for any POTENTIAL [sic] console release to be simultaneous [with the PC game],” said Gop.

He was unable to give any further comment.

The developer has remained hush-hush on the console version of the game, refraining even from specifying which consoles it will be released for. The Witcher: White Wolf was previously planned as a console adaptation of The Witcher, but was canned due to a lack of funding.

The Witcher was a favourite for many RPG gamers, and the sequel is highly anticipated. CD Projekt has developed a new engine for the game which it claims is stunning, but believes the true draw card will be the story.
