PSP2 details emerge, tentatively dated

26 October 2010

Around the time of the 2010 Tokyo Game Show, Sony had apparently showed off their PSP2 behind closed doors at their Japan offices in Aoyama. Kotaku is now reporting that their sources are beginning to spill the beans on some of the details of the device.

A track pad similar to those found on laptops has been attached to the rear of the device. Sony did not disclose how this track pad would be implemented in games or device interface, suggesting that this is up to the game developers.

The device will also feature two analog control sticks ala PlayStation controllers, a first for the PSP range. The screen is reportedly larger than that of the current PSP and Sony is claiming that it will support HD resolutions.

Kotaku also referred to reports that the PSP2 is already in the hands of developers. Sony is still not prepared to officially talk about the device as there are apparently still a few hardware issues to resolve.

The final bit of rumour pie is that the PSP2 is being targeted for a Q3 2011 release. It should also be noted that the image attached to this article is only a concept piece created by a PSP fan.
