Release of the week: Fable III – prices compared

This week’s release of the week was a tossup between Fable III and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2. In the end, Lionhead’s cutesy fantasy universe won out, no thanks to Game Informer calling Force Unleashed 2 “one of 2010’s biggest disappointments.”

Fable III also wins because it has some of England’s greatest exports doing voice work; Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Spaced), John Cleese (Fawlty Towers, Monty Python) and Stephen Fry (Black Adder).

The game is releasing exclusively on Xbox 360 this Friday, and a PC version is expected at a later date. 

Early reviews are looking very positive, with the game being awarded 9/10 by Game Informer and 9.2/10 from CVG. Destructoid, however, gave it a lowly 5.5/10. More important than review scores however, is that most reviewers have agreed that Fable III is what Fable II should have been.

Fable III, for the uninitiated, is an action-adventure/sandbox RPG set in a brightly rendered fantasy world. Players will be able to start a family, purchase property, and perform a wide variety of quests in order to gain favour with the people of Albion and therefore rise in stature and power.
