Last week Microsoft released Lionhead’s third iteration of the hit Fable series. According to sales tracker GfK, the game has gone on to outsell its predecessor’s launch week by 6000 units.
Furthermore, Fable III enjoyed the fourth best launch week for an Xbox 360 game in 2010 so far, and the 13th best launch week for an Xbox 360 game ever.
Fable III is the third chart toping Xbox 360 exclusive released this year, following the Halo: Reach and Crackdown 2.
Although Microsoft will be pleased at the fact that Fable III has enjoyed a better launch than Fable II, it is worth noting that the Xbox 360 install base is significantly bigger than it was when the last game came out. Lionhead’s Peter Molyneux recently announced that the developer is aiming to sell 5 million copies – thats 1.5 million more than Fable II has sold to date.
