Unless you’ve recently arrived from outer space, you’ll probably know that Call of Duty: Black Ops launched yesterday, and that it’s kind of a big deal. The kind of a big deal that puts one million players onto Xbox LIVE kind of a big deal.
Treyarch’s Josh Olin updated over Twitter, just hours after the game’s release Stateside, that: “Am I getting solid intel? Is there really almost 1,000,000 players on Xbox LIVE right now??”
No confirmation on his own intel, of course, but it was apparently so authoritative and important that he committed an error of concord in his giddy excitement to tell everybody else.
And that’s not even including PS3 and PC gamers. Suffice it to say, the game’s had a pretty huge opening day. US retailer GameStop told Gamasutra that, on account of preorders and consumer interest, they’re predicting Black Ops will “be the biggest launch that we’ve ever had, that the industry has ever seen”. We’ll likely have to wait a week or so on hard figures, but it’s probably safe to assume it’s going to be up there, if not at the top. Not too shabby for a game with a floating apple glitch. A FLOATING APPLE.
