Chaos Invaders – play game
Chaos Invaders is a bit of a mashup between Space Invaders and Arkanoid, and it’s highly addictive. The player’s ship automatically shoots and is also used to collect tumbling alien craft. The collected craft can be shot upwards as projectile weapons or shot off the screen to add more seconds to the countdown timer. As players progress different alien types and gameplay elements are introduced. Boss battles mix things up every now and then and the game has a catchy techno soundtrack. Around 17 levels will keep you occupied for a good while.
Escape from the Underworld – play game
Escape from the Underworld is an action platform game with some exploration thrown in. A dark angel has fallen from grace and after going on a particularly murderous rampage, is cast into hell by the other angels. Stripped of all powers, players must guide the dark angel through the underworld, slowly rediscovering lost abilities and avoiding death. The gameplay is smooth yet challenging and the soundtrack is fantastic.
Octodad – play game
Octodad weighs in at 336MB but for your bandwidth you get a hilarious 3D third-person adventure game about destruction, deception and fatherhood. Octodad is an octopus masquerading as a human and he must constantly struggle to conceal his true identity from his human wife and children whilst dealing with the daily trials and tribulations of family life. The game uses a wacky control scheme which mimics an octopus out of water and makes for some funny physics based catastrophes.
Octodad was developed by students at DePaul University, Chicago, Illinois. Beginning in June, the team of 19 conceptualised, prototyped, and developed this original game in order to compete in the Independent Games Festival Student Showcase at the 2011 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
Dash and the Stolen Treasure – play game
Dash and the Stolen Treasure is a 3D action platformer which will probably invoke memories of Crash Bandicoot. Dash is a pirate ironically afraid of water. He’s on a quest to retrieve his treasure which was stolen by a dastardly group of blind shark pirates known as the Unknown. The game takes place on an ancient island full of secrets. There are plenty of sharky bad guys to beat up, collectibles to discover, creatures to rescue, battle arenas, platforming puzzles, and boss battles. Expect a 166MB download.
Dash and the Stolen Treasure is another game that came from a student project – this time a team of five from Spain’s Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
