AMD Zen to reach high-end desktops by the end of 2016

A few of you might have picked up from our recent Zen CPU coverage that we’re fans of AMD’s latest take on the CPU.

That’s because even if Zen doesn’t perform quite as well as we hope, though AMD’s own reports would suggest they will, it’s more capable competition for Intel, and quite frankly they need a little competition.

So when can we expect Zen to be available? PC World reports that Zen processor architecture will arrive for high-end and enthusiast gaming PCs first at the end of this year.

That’s according to AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su, who also stated that Zen processors, dubbed Summit Ridge, would sport high core counts as a “re-entry” into the high-performance desktop market, though she’s more than likely referring to just the higher-end CPUs.
