Since launching on 17 September in the States, Sony’s PlayStation Move motion controller has managed to shift just 400 000 units over there, according to Wedbush analyst and industry crystal ball-gazer, Michael Pachter.
“Move sold well below expectations in its first month” on the continent, and NPD sales results for October show a “modest second month” performance.
“We estimate that Move has sold through approximately 400,000 units in the US in its first six weeks on the market,” Pachter says. “Interestingly, the higher priced Kinect controller appears to have overtaken the Move controller in the sales race.”
In America, anyway. Over in Europe, Move has apparently sold somewhere around 1.5 million. In contrast, in the ten days since its own launch, Microsoft’s Kinect has already sold 1 million units worldwide, although whether or not it can maintain this momentum remains to be seen.
Of course, it’s still early days yet for both peripherals, and for the moment, there’s not much going for core gamers in either catalogue. That said, the Move-enabled Killzone 3 hit retails in February 2011, while unsubstantiated rumours of a Kinect Gears of War game are pretty much all Xbox owners have to hold onto.
