Mark Wahlberg set the interwires abuzz yesterday (24 November 2010) when he confirmed that he would indeed be taking on the movie role of Nathan Drake, the protagonist in the hit PS3 game franchise, Uncharted.
David O. Russell is the writer and director for the project, known for films such as the Three Kings and The Fighter. During an interview with MTV, Wahlberg said of O. Russell’s Uncharted work: “The idea that he has is just insane. So hopefully we’ll be making that movie this summer.”
O. Russell is also apparently writing parts specifically with Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci in mind. De Niro would take the role of Nathan Drake’s father and Pesci the role of Nathan Drake’s uncle. Of course those two actors have yet to be officially confirmed as involved in the movie project.
With this tidbit of information we can deduce that the Uncharted movie script will be expanding on the canon thus far created in the games, as neither Nathan Drake’s father or uncle has been mentioned in the games.
