Gran Turismo 5 is probably the most highly anticipated racing game ever released. It hit shelves yesterday, and already, competing publishers are taking swipes at the PS3 exclusive.
EA considers the upcoming Need For Speed: Shift 2 a direct competitor to GT5, and a better one at that. Speaking to CVG, EA’s senior vice president Patrick Soderlund had this to say:
“I think they have a very sterile, almost car collecting type of product where that’s mainly what we do and I think we can offer something different.”
Codemasters also took a shot, on the heels of their recently released F1 2010. CEO Rod Cousens opened with a compliment, calling GT5 a “phenomenal product”. However, he proceeded to call it “boring”, which is kinda weird because we would have thought that in gaming terms, “boring” and phenomenal” would be mutually exclusive adjectives.
Elaborating to clear up the confusion, Cousens said that “you can have a technically phenomenal game, but you can also have a game concept that doesn’t really appeal [to some racing fans] and could be accused of – and you have to be careful how you write this – of being boring.”
GT5 has been out for just over 24 hours , reviews have been mixed.
