Second StarCraft II ban wave initiated

1 December 2010

Blizzard announced back in September that they were banning a number of individuals found to be using hacks/cheats in StarCraft II. Blizzard likes to ban cheaters en masse, and allows users to run hacks until a critical mass is reached, before banning large numbers at a time.

“We recently issued a new round of account suspensions and bans to StarCraft II players who were in violation of the Battle.net Terms of Use for cheating and/or using hack programs while playing. In addition to undermining the spirit of fair competition that’s essential to play on Battle.net, cheating and hacking can lead to stability and performance issues with the service. As always, maintaining a stable, safe, and secure online-gaming experience for legitimate players is a top priority for us, and we’ll be continuing to keep watch on Battle.net and take action as needed.”

In the last ban wave, gamers complained that Blizzard had also banned people for using hacks in the single player portion of the game. Blizzard responded by stating that any third party security breaches on Battle.net would not be tolerated, as they undermine the integrity of the StarCraft II community. So best stick to the built-in single player cheats then, if you are that way inclined.
