The International e-Sports Federation (IeSF) is on the path to obtaining the recognition of the International Olympic Committee.
On 19 February 2016, IeSF submitted an official letter of request to the International Olympic Committee, which started the process of obtaining recognition.
This was followed by a response on 8 April 2016 acknowledging the application and outlining the required process. IeSF is set to undergo evaluation in December 2016, which will help determine its recognition status.
The International eSports Federation has made many efforts to bring eSports into the realm of conventional sports, including working with the World Anti Doping Agency, Olympic Council of Asia and the International Association of Athletics Federations.
The future of eSports
IeSF is constantly taking steps to integrate eSports into sporting societies and will be taking part in the upcoming SportAccord convention to further this end.
“We still have many tasks to cover and this will be indeed a difficult challenge,” said IeSF President Byung Hun Jun.
“This challenge can be successfully completed with the continuous support from our e-sport fans, Athletes, game companies, and partners working together in the e-sports industry.”
