Official PlayStation App coming to iPhone, Android

17 December 2010

Sony has announced via the PlayStation.Blog that an Official PlayStation App will be launched “very soon.” The app will be free to download.

The app will be available on the iPhone and iPod Touch devices running iOS4 as well as Adroid devices running a minimum of Android OS version 1.6.

Version 1.0 of the PlayStation App will do the following:

– Check out your PlayStation Network trophies and keep up to date with your friends’ games and online status.
– Discover all the latest games, news and hardware for your PlayStation 3, PSP and PlayStation 2.
– Read all the announcements on the European PlayStation.Blog.
– Share your favourite products or news with your friends on Facebook, Twitter or via e-mail.

Whilst version 1.0 will only be officially available in certain EU countries (UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and The Netherlands), where there is a will, there is a way.

Sony does have plans to include support for most countries with the release of their next version, something they are already working on. The next version also promises “tons more features” which will hopefully flesh out the very basic offering found in version 1.0.
