Call of Duty: Black Ops clocks 600 million hours of game time

29 December 2010

Activision has announced that between 9 November and 24 December 2010, 20 million Call of Duty: Black Ops players have clocked over 600 million hours of game time. That’s 68000 years.

Man, if they weren’t so busy fragging noobs, think of all the things those people might’ve managed to do with all that time instead. Like, invented time travel or something. Actually, if they’d invented time travel, they could play Call of Duty for 600 million hours in just one hour, by dialling back every hour. In that case, they’d have logged 648 000 000 000 hours – or 73 900 000 years – by now. Those time travellers would totally pwn these guys.

Anyway, all these big numbers follow on from the recent announcement of US$1 billion banked at Activision HQ.

“The $1 billion milestone is staggering, but it doesn’t tell the whole story,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “The true measure of Black Ops’ success lies in the millions of hours that people are investing in this game and this community. Call of Duty has in many ways become one of the world’s most engaged social networks.”
