Amazon vs Youtube – Amazon’s new service means anyone can make money from their online videos

16 May 2016

On 10 May, Amazon released Amazon Video Direct (AVD), a program that will enable video creators to post content to the company’s Video hub.

Posting to this hub means content creators will be able to share their videos with tens of millions of Amazon Prime members across the world.

Unlike its competitor YouTube, Amazon will allow users to monetise not only through advertisements, but also through royalties, one-off rentals or purchases, and even monthly subscriptions.

This means struggling streamers who can’t make ends meet through YouTube now have a viable alternative revenue stream.

AVD also plans to reward it’s most popular creators, as starting in June they plan to hand out $1 million each month to the top 100 users.

You can join the program here.
