Xbox LIVE free-to-play weekend announced

From January 28 (12:00 p.m. EST / 9:00 a.m. PST) through January 31 (12:00 p.m. EST / 9:00 a.m. PST), all Xbox LIVE members will be able to try Xbox LIVE Gold for free. This means that Xbox LIVE Free account holders can try out some multiplayer action, a service which normally requires a subscription to Xbox LIVE Gold.

Major Nelson has also posted an update on content to expect on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace over the coming weeks, so without further ado, the lineup is below. As always the current schedule may be subject to change.

Activision and Electronic Arts catalogue specials

From January 11 through January 17 a number of Activision products are discounted up to 50 percent. This includes Call of Duty Map Packs, Guitar Hero Add-ons, and popular Arcade titles. Details will emerge on the Xbox LIVE Dashboard on 11 January.

From January 18 through January 25 a selection of Electronic Arts products will be discounted by up to 50 percent. Details will emerge on the Xbox LIVE Dashboard on 18 January.
