GSC Game World announced last year that the first fully fledged sequel to S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl is being developed for multiple platforms, unlike all previous games in the series which have been released exclusively on PC.
Naturally, this raised concerns among many core fans of the series, who feared that the decision to go multiplatform would have a negative effect on the PC version. Speaking to VG247, the developer explained that the PC version would still be the primary development platform.
“Since we develop primarily on PC, you won’t see any compromises in the PC version,” the developer said. “The key difference between the PC and console versions will be the beauty of graphics (meaning PC will offer more of visual effects).”
A new engine will be powering the game, which will also feature a new story and characters. GSC claims to have placed more focus on the ‘survival element of the game’.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 is planned for release in 2012, and will be released for PC, as well as unspecified consoles. Xbox 360 and PS3 releases seem like a safe bet, however.
