‘Splosion Man dev accuses Capcom of plagiarism

13 January 2011

Twisted Pixel’s Mike Henry has lamented Capcom’s apparently blatant copying of their Xbox LIVE Arcade hit ‘Splosion Man.

The Capcom title in question is MaXplosion, and it sells over on the Apple App Store.

Griping via Twitter, Henry said “[The] MaXplosion gameplay video makes me sad. If you’re going to outright steal a game, you should at least understand what makes it fun. Borrowing is great. Hell, we do it all the time. But that game is a complete theft.”

Twisted Pixel co-founder Michael Wilford also chimed in by revealing that the idea for ‘Splosion Man had actually been pitched to Capcom in the first place. He takes a swipe at Capcom by saying Twisted Pixel will just have to make a better iPhone game than them, which “shouldn’t be hard.”

“I’ll always love Capcom [because] of what they brought to my childhood, but WTF have they turned into? First they lose Inafune, now this,” said Wilford.
