BioWare: Mass Effect 2 PS3 demo an “older build”

17 January 2011

Responding to complaints on the BioWare blog about the PS3 Mass Effect 2 demo’s visual quality, the company’s community coordinator Chris Priestly says that, “The demo was, for certification and testing reasons, about a 2 month older build than the final ‘what you will play when you get it home’ version. I think you’ll see that the game is noticeably better at launch.”

He also added a little smiley face to show he was totally deadly serious.

BioWare recently announced that the PS3 version of the game is built on Mass Effect 3’s engine, which is probably not quite as grand as it sounds – it’s still the Unreal Engine 3, just with a few aesthetic tweaks. It’s a rather fine looking game, regardless.

There was also some vague commentary about the game featuring an “improved” planetary scanning system. Dodged a space-bullet there, PS3 fans.

The game launches at retail and over the PSN on 18 January.
