Hyperkin Lab has launched a developer kit of the Smart Boy add-on for Android phones, priced at $59.99.
The Android smartphone accessory promises support for Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges, but has called on the community to help improve its software.
Included in the kit is an open source serial app and firmware, which Hyperkin said will let developers advance its current build toward a retail-ready model.
The company added that it is offering a royalty percentage of retail-ready Smart Boy units sold to anyone that can improve the device’s serial app and firmware.
Hyperkin provided the following specifications for the Smart Boy:
- Atmel 90USB646
- NTSC or PAL cartridges compatible
- Phone Size: 5-6 inches
- Smart Boy Serial App Access for Mounting and Controller mapping
- 4.4.4 Android KitKat OTG minimum OS requirement
