Despite the incredible hype built around the Steam sale every year and its massive size, we noticed some quiet rumblings around this year’s Steam Summer Sale, particularly regarding the lack of flash sales.
We decided to ask MyGaming’s readers what they thought of this year’s Steam Summer Sale.
With the results now in following various polls and threads set up across the site, we can now safely say that the answers were….mixed.
We ran two polls, one on the MyGaming front page and one within our forums, but the general sentiment remained the same – this year’s sales were good but were nothing compared to what we had seen in previous years.
This is what our forumites had to say:
Avatar: “It’s a little underwhelming. I think the excitement of daily and flash sales really helped liven it up.”
FarligOpptreden: “Problem is that the discounts are quite underwhelming this year. In the past you could pick up killer deals on relatively new games. Now they hover around the 25-30% discount mark.”
DieGrootHammer: “Wow, people are actually unhappy about the specials on Steam. Like really?!?! Remember, none of us are entitled to any specials whatsoever. The specials aren’t something we HAVE to get. Yes I understand that the excitement of the daily deals and stuff is something people are missing, but to be unhappy because games are marked down at anything from 20% to 80% is ridiculous.”
Grievous: “I miss the activities, but the daily deals and flash sales were crap. There was always the possibility the game you wanted could become cheaper at a later point during the sale. This way is much more fair towards the consumer.”
Wlad: “I’m happy with the deals on offer. Got a few things so far and might pick up one or two more. Wish I had the funds to get the more recent releases on discount.”

Our front page was slightly more negative, with 62% voting that they felt this year’s sale was disappointing.

This was my first steam summer sale and I was just blown away, I owned a ps3 went over to pc and I’m not going back. Picked up 8 (not to old released around 2013) games for about R350…! Thank you Steam!
