Top 10 Xbox LIVE Arcade games

27 January 2011

Microsoft’s Xbox division had a particularly good end to 2010 – in December they posted their best hardware sales figures since the Xbox 360 launched, spurred on by the successful launch of the Kinect.

2010 also turns out to have been a fantastic year for the Xbox LIVE Arcade division of the service, growing to an estimated US$122 million in revenues through the year (according to analyst firm Forecasting & Analyzing Digital Entertainment (FADE)).

While retail software sales were struggling in 2010, Xbox Live Arcade continued to grow, posting a 16% year-over-year increase in revenues, despite the strengthening of Games on Demand and Indie titles. Growth was across the board, as new releases earned an average of US$816,000 per title on the year – up from approximately US$720,000 USD among new releases the year prior.

The top title in terms of units sold was Capcom’s ‘Dead Rising 2: Case Zero’ which saw just under 700,000 units sold at US$5.00 per unit. Playdead’s highly-reviewed platformer ‘LIMBO’ was the highest grossing, having recorded roughly US$7.5 million in revenues by years’ end.
