Mobile data is cheaper than broadband for 95% of the world

8 August 2016

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has released 2016’s facts and figures on technology adoption across the world.

Among the more impressive statistics is the fact that mobile data is now considerably cheaper than fixed broadband.

Specifically in the world’s least developed countries, fixed broadband can cost up to three times mobile rates.

“The average price of a basic fixed-broadband plan is more than twice as high as the average price of a comparable mobile broadband plan.”

“In the world’s least developed nations, fixed services cost three times more than mobile services.”

This could be due to another major finding by the ITU, 95% of mobile users can now get at least one bar of coverage across the globe.
